Marist

The Marist Brothers, an international Religious Congregation of the Catholic Church, came to Australia in 1872 and established schools in most Australian States. They presently number over 300 Brothers.

One hundred and thirty years later the Brothers continue to work with young people, in schools as teachers and administrators, in retreats and camps for young people, and in many other areas of ministry.

They serve the poor and the needy in welfare ministries, work with young adults, in outreach programs, Aboriginal communities and missions in Papua New Guinea, Bougainville, Cambodia, Solomon Islands, India, and East Timor.

The Marist Brothers work in 76 countries around the world.

Sion

The Sisters of Our Lady of Sion, an international Religious Congregation of the Catholic Church, came to Australia in 1890. They are called to witness by their lives to a three-fold commitment to the Church, to the Jewish people, and to a world of justice, peace and love.

The Sisters work in a variety of ministries. Some are involved in direct Jewish-Christian contact, others in developing the church’s understanding of its Jewish roots through pastoral and educational involvements, while others work directly in areas of injustice.

The Sisters endeavour to promote understanding between cultures, respect for minorities and foster dignity while combating racism, anti-semitism, prejudice and segregation.
