Clay Target Shooting

Glorious conditions greeted staff and students at this year’s annual Wellington Secondary Schools Shoot at Sale Field and Game. The College sent a 20-strong team to the event.

Students were placed into teams of five and were required to shoot two twenty simulated targets and five ‘down the line’ targets. Simulated Field targets have no set trajectories or shooting stand layouts and can be thrown from all sorts of positions, with all sorts of trajectories. Down the Line has five shooting stands with targets being mechanically thrown from a central trap house, moving away from the shooting stands within a defined arc. Shooters move between the stands after each round of targets, rotating between the five set shooting points.

Ryder Miller (Year 9) placed 3rd in the Junior Boys division, shooting 20 of 25 targets.

Jessie Sedman shot 17 of 25 to just miss out on a place in the Senior Girls top three, while Zac Jones (20/25) and Campbell Gladman (19/25) weren’t far away from medal contention either in the senior boys event.

Callum Farley and Blake Ross claimed 18 and 16 targets in the Junior Boys Division respectively.

Our best overall team score was 77/125 and featured; Jack Peatling, Ryder Miller, Tuscian Lowe, Sophia Salce & Jessie Sedman.

Big thankyou to John Hirt and the team at Sale Field and Game for their preparation of another terrific event.
