Intermediate Netballers – through to State Finals!

Our Year 9/10 Girls netball team had a great day yesterday at the SSV Gippsland Finals.
The girls played three games against the best from across the region for a spot in the State Finals.

Game 1 defeated Marist-Sion Warragul (36-15)
Our day started positively, with a first-round victory against our rivals Marist-Sion Warragul. The first half was characterised by some great passing by Lilli Stobie and Indigo Waugh into our attacking third.
Shooters Ruby Dillon and Charlotte Ronchi were able to capitalise with some wonderful accuracy. Our accuracy under goal was fantastic, while our zone defence ensured the ball spent more time in our hands, than our opponent’s. Olivia Barnett, Tess Hansford and Maya Bown were counter-attacking, roaming the defensive and mid-court thirds creating interceptions and opportunities for our mid-courters.
After starting in defence, Keisha Jackson capped off the match with some great ranged shooting, as we won by a healthy margin, 36-15.

Game 2 defeated Wonthaggi SC (31-21)
Ruby Dillon continued her confident shooting, leading from the front to give us a strong opening quarter against our South Gippsland opponents. Great vision and anticipation from Tess Hansford lead to some great interceptions and counter-attacking play. Charlotte Ronchi’s finishing as a passer and shooter capped off a great match, as we closed out a win by 10 goals. While the margin was double digits in the end, CCS were made to work until the final whistle.

Game 3 defeated Nagle College (30-13)
After taking a quarter to kick into gear, CCS finished with a solid win it its last match against Nagle. After only leading 6-3 at the first break,
As she had done all day, Olivia Barnett played a stellar role at Goal Defence, anticipating opponent’s decisions and forcing a number of interceptions. Jaz Hennig provided some great run and support in midcourt, linking up with defenders and shooters to reaffirm our control on the game.
We would run away winners 30-13.

The team played to an exceptional standard across the day, with three really strong victories.
The girls are now set for SSV State Finals on September 9th at the Waverley Netball Centre.
