Year 9/10 Cricket – SSV Gippsland

After our semi-final opponent pulled out in the days leading up to the competition, CCS arrived at the Traralgon West Sports Complex on Tuesday October 15th knowing it would play one of Leongatha or Bairnsdale Secondary Colleges for a chance at the State Quarter final. As we arrived, Leongatha SC were wrapping up a comprehensive victory in the first match of the day, and were happy with a quick turn-around time for the final.

CCS won the toss and chose to bat on a cool, overcast day.

Zak Russell (44 off 34) and Tom Morrison (33 off 31) laid a terrific foundation, amassing 63 runs without loss inside nine overs. However, some good bowling coupled with poor shot selection crippled CCS to 9-109 after 20 overs, putting us 30-40 runs short of our desired total.

An early breakthrough from Meika King gave us a glimmer of hope, but Leongatha opening batsman Ethan Lamars innings of 69* guided Leongatha to an 8-wicket win with overs to spare.
Sol Nash was our other wicket-taker, who finished with 1-19.

Focus now goes to Marist Cricket selection, as our team heads up to St John’s College Woodlawn in the first week of December.

A big thank you to Josh Davis for his coaching and mentoring of the team this year.
